Ricardo Campelo, playwright and stage director of the Teatro Xtremo collective explains: “We build our work taking advantage of plastic and scenic techniques, we learn from the painting, audiovisual, acting, dancing and fighting processes. We started off attracted to an impulse with which we would develop polyhedric situations to provide experiences”.
In this work, research starts off with a text that Lope de Vega read in 1609 to the academics in Madrid. A manifesto, a declaration of creative principles, an advanced meta-text with rules that establish the origins for the creative process. Through music, video, movements and the space, the company creates a direct connection between Lope’s era, the Baroque period and the 21st Century.
Teatro Xtremo was established in Madrid in 2002 and since then they create works inspired in alienation, faith, addiction, pain, consumerism, love, solitude… feelings generated by the paradoxes of contemporaneity. The company has recently been awarded with the Best Stage Play Award at the IX CENIT Festival in Sevilla for its work Oblivion or swans that reflect as elephants, premiered at the Pavón Kamikaze Theatre.
