The shining emergence in the sixteenth and seventeenth century of a great number of lyric writers in Spanish literature has enabled us today to choose at each moment, in each year, a splendid sample of the value that those poets had for Spanish literature and thought.
Here we have Fray Luis de León. Nothing less than that rebel man, perceptive, sharp, sensitive, essential figure to know what miracle happened in the Spanish literature so that, centuries later, we continue believing in it and feeling proud of being able to read it, to understand it, to love it. This wonderful Fray Luis that fills us with images, feelings, ideas, sensitivity, and that forces us to recognize our ignorance, to admit our limited knowledge, compared with his. To read him is to live the words, to feel the concepts, to fill us with light.
We humbly ask for forgiveness, Luis Delgado and me, for daring to borrow from Fray Luis his beautiful texts that inspire us a way to bring music and words to live with their brothers of Theatre.
